What is a digital identity?

A digital identity is a virtual representation of an entity (person, machine, or application) that allows it to be identified and authenticated within a computer system or network.

This is the technological link between a system and a real person.

It contains information such as:

  • the name
  • the email address
  • the IP address
  • user roles and permissions
  • the groups to which he belongs
  • profile information, etc.
